Job Description
The German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) is one of Europe’s largest cancer research centers. “Research for a life without cancer" is the mission of our world-class scientists and all our team members.
We investigate how cancer develops, identify cancer risk factors and search for new cancer prevention strategies. We develop new methods with which tumors can be diagnosed more precisely and cancer patients can be treated more successfully. Up to 40 percent of all new cases of cancer diagnosed in Germany every year could be avoided if all the scientifically proven preventive measures were implemented.
The DKFZ, the German Cancer Aid and a number of partners of the National Decade against Cancer have entered a long-term strategic partnership to establish the “National Cancer Prevention Center” (NCPC) in Heidelberg. In the new NCPC, basic, clinical, population-level epidemiologic, behavioral, social, and communication research will be integrated to enable progress in the area of cancer prevention and control.
Your Tasks
- Curating local and international know-how on risk prediction models for personalized cancer prevention
- Supervising the implementation of cancer risk prediction models into software tools by communicating requirements to a dedicated team of software developers
- Working with nurses, medical doctors, scientists, and patients to improve the way that important evidence is presented to all of them
- Supervising content generation for digital prevention tools at the NCPC
Your Profile
- A master's or PhD degree in epidemiology, public health, biostatistics, or a health-care related field
- Additional training and experience in the application of epidemiological principles and practices is desirable
- Passionate about risk communication
- Excellent team working and communication skills
- Dedication to bridging scientific findings into clinical practise
- Ability to work independently and proactively with colleagues from different disciplines
- Strong interest in utilizing innovative data collection modalities (e.g., wearables) and AI in prevention research
